EDITORIAL STYLE GUIDE

的 佛罗里达大西洋 Division of Public Affairs follows 的 Associated Press Stylebook (AP). This guide is a reference for the 能力 community to ensure consistency, 清晰, and accuracy among print and online publications. Its purpose is to help the university community present unified and consistent external messages.

大学的名字

使用 the complete name 佛罗里达大西洋 University on first reference for external audiences. 能力, 佛罗里达大西洋, or University can be used on second reference in print or other written materials. 能力 should always be used on second reference for broadcast media. University, when referring to 能力, is always capitalized.

ACADEMIC DEGREES

When listing degrees – and the subject areas in which degrees have been issued – capitalize. Preference is to abbreviate the degree. 的 word degree should not follow a degree abbreviation.

例子: 他得了B.S. 在生物学中. She received a Bachelor of Science 在生物学中.

利用 the title of degree. For example: Bachelor of Science; Master of Arts. 但 小写字母 when generally referring to degree. For example: a bachelor’s degree or a bachelor’s.

 

ACADEMIC DEPARTMENTS/COLLEGES/OFFICES

Official name is capitalized. (例子: College of Engineering and Computer Science; Office for Students with Disabilities).  使用 full name on first reference and “college” on second reference, not capitalized.

ALUMNUS, ALUMNA, ALUMNI, ALUMNAE

  • 使用 校友 when referring to a man who has attended a school (校友 是复数形式)
  • 使用 女校友 for similar references to a woman (女校友 是复数形式)
  • 校友 is used when referring to a group of men and women
  • John Smith ’75 (NOTE: closed quote mark, a.k.a. 撇号)
  • 的 class of ’75 (NOTE: closed quote mark, a.k.a. 撇号)
  • 约翰·史密斯，B.A., ’75 (NOTE: closed quote mark, a.k.a. 撇号)

  • 的 网 is the walkway running north/south through the middle of the 波卡拉顿 campus.
  • 的 Carole and Barry Kaye Performing Arts Auditorium is located in the 学生会 on the 波卡拉顿 campus.
  • 能力的舞台, also “的 Burrow,” is located on the 波卡拉顿 campus.
  • 的 能力/HBOI Marine Science Building is located at 能力 港分公司.
  • 能力体育场 (do not use “the” before the name) is located on the 波卡拉顿 campus.
  • 的 学生会, previously the University Center, is located on the 波卡拉顿 campus.
  • 的 Marleen and Harold Forkas 校友 Center is located on the 波卡拉顿 campus.
  • 的 Reubin O’D Askew Tower is the eastern building on the 劳德代尔堡 campus and the 能力/BCC Higher Education Complex is the western building.
  • Schmidt Family Complex for Academic and Athletic Excellence.

能力 currently has six locations. Names listed in bold below are preferred in the first use. Subsequent listings offer additional acceptable uses.

笔记: When appropriate, “Broward campuses” or “Northern campuses” grouping may be used. 的 Broward campuses are 能力 Dania海滩, 能力戴维 and 能力 劳德代尔堡. 的 Northern campuses are 能力 港分公司 and 能力木星.

List in alphabetical order when listing more than one campus.

Always spell out “劳德代尔堡” and “Fort” Pierce. Always abbreviate Port “St.“露西.

When using the “campus” in text, 小写字母 “c.” (例子: I met my wife at the 木星 campus.)

Always use full name on the first reference, although it is not necessary to include the middle initial. President Kelly prefers “Dr. 约翰·凯利” or “President John Kelly, Ph.D.” Do not use “President Dr. 约翰·凯利”

学期

使用 小写字母 for seasons of the year, but uppercase when referring to a semester. (例子: I started classes at 能力 last fall during the Fall 2007 semester.)
